Camellia

Generally "Tsubaki" (camellia) is either "Yabu Tsubaki" or "Yama Tsubaki" but there are about four hundred to five hundred of different variety. All of them are improved from Japanese wild camellias. Typical ones are "Akebono Tsubaki", "Otome Tsubaki", "Kan Tsubaki", "Shiratama Tsubaki", "Seihi Tsubaki" and "Wabisuki Tsubaki".

Point
Handling technique for each kind of camellias is different. For example," Shiratama tubaki", exaggerate the interesting shaped branches or coming out leaves and put the flower in bloom at low position of the central part of the whole. "One flower with three and half leaves" is the very technical and high style. Half leaf means worm-eaten leaf. In the same way as "Yabu tsubaki", select closely the each branch, leaf and flower. But use the natural shaped branch and leaf as much as possible when it is used as supporting other main material. "Seihi tsubaki", "Kagura tsubaki", have big splendid flowers so don't pick a lot of leaves closely to show flowers. "Otome tsubaki" can be used for supporting all king of plant. Usually don't pick too much leaves. It is handled technically strict in early spring. It is better just put the small branch with beautiful flower to main material than using big branches as a main.

Japanese witch hazel

We have a few story why it has been called for "Mansaku" (Japanese witch hazel). Usually "Mansaku" for garden plant is "Beni Mansaku".

Point
We use it as a main material when it has a lot of flowers on the spray in spring. It is also used for both "moribana" and "keika" when it grow thick fresh and green leaves in summer. Specially red leaves in fall is very beautiful so it is frequently used more than maple.
